looks like a KK he doesn't have the black flower marking near his head. Some will have this marking but usually they will have more kamfa traits. Nice looking fry lots of pearl potential. Btw welcome to FHUSA!!

It doesn't look like a KK, looks like a ZZ. At 2 inches it's still very small for kok growth and definitely way to small to breed. I can't tell the sex because of it's small size but I would guess male. It's very nice for your first flowerhorn, congratulations and welcome to the hobby!

Oh yeah, welcome to FHUSA!

I kinda agree with David about the marking but the reason it looks ZZ to me is because it's body shape, deep red eyes and tail fin. More clear pictures would help.

Is it possible father was kk and mother was zz? I'm clueless as to how the whole breeding process is with the parents and mixes!

Don't worry about what it is called as long as you enjoy it, but if you really must know.

King kamfa has the blood of the King Bacara, thats were the armor plating comes from. I think if its crossed with a very pearly SRT, or kamfamalau then you might get the beginning formula, from then on you will have to do selective breeding for desired traits. King Kamfa has one major flaw in its tail, it not consistent in all the pcs to have a kamfa wrapped tail. Many KK tails do not come wrap tail. some are even dropped and not strong.

SRT = Super Red Texas << is a type of strain that might have been used for the pearls in breeding because its more of a stable strain due to recrossing of the same strain to get srt colors
Wrapped tail is the tail that is fanned out and straight looking when fully opened.

Yeah, I agree with you David. At only 2 inches it's still a bit early to clearly classify and be 100% certain.

Pump him/her up, keep water nice and warm and give it plenty of space to live in (60gl or bigger).

Although it's too early to say what strain that little guy is, I think he definitely has potential! Pearling is superb, flowerline is neat abd KOK is starting to pop out! Pump him up and keep us updated! biggrin.gif

For those that didnt know my fh is bout 3.5'' now and he outgrew the electric blue jack dempseys! The fh attacked the jack and bit off his back fin and side fin! I removed the jack's from his tank the jack with missing fins was close to belly up in other tank so i put him back in with fh and decided to let nature run its course! For those that think fh can have tank mates please watch this video lol. By the time i got video camera my fh had already ripped the head off and most the body i did capture most the aftermath!
youtube fh attack!
