It probablly would be best to start fresh but you dont have to,I would cause your fh was prob real messy and disscus do like a real clean tank, high temp 82-86 low ph soft water, best to use half RO and half tap that shoud help soften your water, disscus are beautiful fish but im not into hard to take care of stuff, and they dont move around much they just kinda float around the tank.you will also need to do once weekly water changes

Discus are not as hard as many think. It was already mentioned above what discus prefer with a couple exceptions.Farm raised or tank raised ph 6 - 6.6.Wild discus below 6. Many wild discus are coming from a ph below 5. Temp. 84 plus.

Domestic discus these days dont need a low P.H. to survive. Most will do well in even P.H. of 7.0 which is tap water.

That's true, I have am raising discus fries right now, I got them at nickel to quarter size, after 2 weeks they are close tp two inches. I just use tap water and add some amquel and novaqua. I do daily water changes because I have 15 fries in a 20 G tank and feed 6X a day and I want my tank to look clean. But if there are just 5 fries I think weekly wc would be fine. I havn't checked my pH levels at all, I think it is okay since they are all alive and growing very fast.
