is it ok to use Pleco to Cycle your tank?

I just got a new tank and happen to get two free 3-4inch pleco and was thinking if is ok to cycle with.

i tried to do that with a new looking pleco it has a nose like a shark and my fhs would pec at him to much. but i guess you could try it. afro.gif

sorry, but ur pleco will prolly die b/c there are no algea in the tank for it to eat. you should wait atleast a month until u attemp to add a pleco.

i would recommand bio spira, gold fishes, or even market prawns.

Yup! Welcome to FHUSA VNKid x 408!! thumbsup.gif Plecos should not be used in a situation as such, like Oinky said,"no algae build up within the tank when first being cycled" Very big risk!! Use cheap fish to cycle or some additive! thumbsup.gif

If pleco is the only option you have then buy some sinking food for them.

doesn't have to buy sinking food...my 7inches pleco...came up to the surface and eat the pellets food..

you can feed it some algae wafers, it sinks.
