an article on how to identify the diffrents strains of flowerhorn would be very helpfull. And maybe what to look for when you are buying a flowerhorn. This forum is really great and the article section will make it even better. Thanks for taking the time to do this!!!! thumbsup.gif

WOOHOO! this thing is in full effect!...I hope someone with some good FH knowledge gives feedback on this one because... you can look at different species ALL day (as I did) and still not know 100% for sure what species they are. Thanks Danz and Andy for starting this off 4.gif

Basic tank setups might help. These are the main points I could think of real fast.

Decorations ( what they need, what to stay away from, ect. )
dividers
substrates (including the crushed coral buffer technique)
heater types/locations
Powerheads?
best lighting (High end and low cost) to make them look nice.

I think after bro cheken's debacle, maybe an article on tips for picking a good transhipper/seller etc.. It's messed up what happened with his fish, and if we can save that fate from someone else further down the line, then at least something positive can come from his experience.

Good suggestion. We are implementing a newer version of the reputatation system for the new forum version. As soon as that is done, we will ask our members to use the system for in depth review & recommandation of sellers they have experianced with.

well thats cool, cause thats just f'd up what happened to him. Cheken must be a pretty laid back dude, Cause I would be through the friggin roof if that happened to me. It's a shame people don't take things like that. It was super cool of chek to buy all those fish to help their GB and that is how they treat someone who spends that kinda money??? I havn't been here long but can tell there are a lot of trustworthy people to deal with on here. And personally, i have never participated in a gb yet, and I want too, and after hearing that story, I want to make sure everything goes smooth.

kind of hard to give an answer with the information you provided. I live in michigan and its freakin' cold outside, so I need a heater. Have 2 in some tanks laugh.gif If your water stays around 80deg. without heater you can probly get by without using one. Personally, I would get a heater to avoid any mishaps, and even though they may be able to live without one if your climate is warm enough, a heater will keep the water at a constant temp that you control.

I think you should definatley get a heater if you care about your fish. The water needs to stay the same temp and not flucuate at 2am. This will stress the fish and he could get sick.

Thanx for the info. I have a tank that doesn't have a heater but stays at about 76 degrees, but I didn't think about the middle of the night temp drop that occurs. I'll be getting a heater this week. thumbsup.gif
