Is this a male or a female? The fish is around 4" and at what size do they start breeding? Thanks

and ohhh yea, you could start breed it at 3.5 - 5 inches if its a female. 6-8 inches for males

Male for sure.How do i know ive owned alot of them and i can tell sex by looking at them.For sure cuz of his colors. Also the females have blakc mark on top fin. Males color fluctuate depending on mood. They show alot of black. Below the gills. Wich this fish seems to be a lil dark there. When adult it will acrtualli get really dark during spawning and his body really white. As far as breeding you might want to wait and pump him up. Ive had em breed at that size but took a few trys to get batch and was very little.

6-8"? awe man i have one too. its 4". it looks just like mine. so its a male. just a few more months and its ready. goodluck.

It's a male H. cyanoguttatus. Females have black in the dorsal males don't. Just like H. carpinte both will turn white with a black throat when spawning. They'll spawn anywhere from two to three inches on. He's old enough to breed.
