right now i'm feeding freeze dry krill by tetra-e, this type of blood parrot pellet the lfs recommended, and ghost shrimp. the pellets are suppose to make the colors more vibrant and so far so good. but the kok just doesn't seem to be coming out as much as i'd like. any suggesstions?

bro... what you feed your fh will not make the kok grow but only to enhance.. the size of their kok growth will depend on their genes..

lemme rephrase it then. what food will enhance the head? i know my fish has some potential cause i've seen his head get bigger and smaller depending on his mood.

If that's the case, good water condition and any hi protein food should do the job

A hi-protein pellet I've used is XO humpy head 58% protein.
It would be great if you could post some pictures

Whatever you do, feed your fh with a variety of food. In this it will have a balance diet. Besides, the head will depend a lot on its genes. But, the depth and space in the tank will also help. Ideally you should have a depth of at least 15 inches. Hope this helps.

GS is really more on growth. Coloration comes from shrimps , frozen blood worms and others.
As for the kok growth, its really on the genes. Feeding it with good food will bring out its potential. But if it has no potetial to kok, not much can really be done.

i agree with jett that humpy head will bring out the head potential of your fh.
in my opinion, food with high protein is also good like beefheart or chickenheart.

It's in the gene....a kokster will be a kokster....just like human....if you are born ugly or great looking....no matter what food you process within you....the outcome....will be the same....hmmm...unless plastic surgery takes place of course....

...then you will have a Michael Jackson looking flower horn....

What is Karma Shrimp. I live in the Pacific Northwest (close to Portland, Oregon)
and none of the food that is mentioned here is available, does anyone have a suggestion of just a good all around cichlid food, that isn't a pellet, my fish don't like them.

QUOTE (Bilbo @ Jul 29 2004, 05:54 AM)
"Proper" food will bring out the fh's full potential. But it will not do anything past what the genes of the fish is already set at. If you have one food that seems to bring out the kok of a fish better than another food, it doesnt mean the food is a kok enhancer. Theres no such thing. All it does mean though is that the good food supplies enough proper nutrients that allow the fh's body grow to its maximum size. And it means the other food just didnt have the right nutrients the fh's body needed.
Does this mean all the fish pellets that claims to make the kok bigger are useless since the size of the kok is really dependent on the genes of the FH?
