is anyone using crushed coral? ive read it helps bring out kok?
Bllib
I haven't seen any one use it here. I know some guys that are really into cichlids that use it. From what I have seen I have seen some massive koks and there was a bare bottom tank.

yes Ive seen that too, i have a bag and not sure if i should put it in . i dont want to hurt him
Bllib
I won't hurt him. If you want to use it go ahead but if you want a big kok it is not necessary. Do it only if you want the look.

It's used to raise ph. I've met some members that use ONLY crushed coral instead of gravel and I've seen others (like myself) that mix it up with the gravel. Out of all my tanks I'm using a mixture of crushed coral and gravel in only one of them.

Honestly though if you want a fh with a big kok crushed coral will not magically make it happen. It's all about the genes thumbsup.gif

Try it out anyway to quench your curiosity, just make sure and rinse it out a couple of times first to ensure cleanliness. wink.gif

i use a crushed coral gravel mix in my tanks and coral filled media bags in my filters... doesnt help buffer much to be honest, it does however help stabilize ph that drops due to poop biggrin.gif

crushed coral actually slightly dissolves in soft water to raise ph. but that's only if your water is soft enough. if your water is already relatively hard, then the crushed coral will not affect your pH levels. long story short, it doesn't make a difference in water quality unless your water is too soft.
