What happened to him?

The best thing to do first is check your water parameters,this will help him recover.
Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
Ph:

If those are fine try adding salt at 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons. ( Not table salt with Iodine added).This helps alot of problems to heal quickly.

Salt will help him heel.I do think he will be fine if you seperate him from who ever did this to him.Goog luck and keep us posted

ive done everything u said already so hopefully he'll come back to the way he was. him and another fish got into a bad fight but he got the worse of it. they in a 125gal never had a problem but im going to end up just having him and his mate in there alone

Try to get some close up pictures, I'm interested to see if this is a bad case of fin rot.

Acutally No that will not grow back normaly or even if it will grow back at all the reason is once the tissue and bone structure near the back is gone it will not grow back correctly.
