i have tried to breed this female many times, first with a texas, it was never succesful cause the male never fertilized the eggs and ate them everytime. Now i got her a male fh. They already spawned once but they did it overnight and they used my pleco's cave to do it.. next morning i looked inside the cave and was only a few eggs left.. i suspect the pleco ate them.
i took out the pleco and its cave and put a somewhat flat piece that i used to have in a cascade decorative filter i dont use anymore.
in less then three weeks i got eggs again yestarday )) they laid about 5 pm yestarday. i left the eggs rigth there and both male and female are caring fanning the eggs and protecting the nest.
i was expecting that this morning i was gonna wake up to see the eggs gone or all white... well all the eggs are untouched exept a few (about 10 of them) are white.
i do not have antifungal meds, and i had skipped on the water change cause the spawn caugth me off guard and i didnt wanna bother them.
after how long non fertile eggs shoudl turn white?
i am very afraid all eggs will turn white its been 20 hours since the eggs where laid only a few white, should i think there is some hope of wigglers hahahha
i dont know im just so exited and i have so many unsucessful spawns i am just so worried!!

after 2 days you should see the 2 eyes

5 day from there you will see tail wiggling (wigglers)

2 day from there you will see them all swimming (need to start feeding)

You might want to give them a couple of days, just like hybrid mentioned roughly around 2-3 days when you'll see the dark spots (eyes). Wish you the best of luck and hopefully you'll have some wrigglers soon. If not then you can try again in a couple of weeks.

rigth now almost 2 days, about 20-40%of eggs are white, but i can see eyes on the others!!!!

im a little worried now cuz more than 50% are white, i hope the ones left hatch quickly so i dont end up losing them all..

they hatched!! she hid them somewhere i cannot see them but i saw here putting the last ones in some place between the rocks... i had to take the male out of the tank cuz he was getting agressive... i have to wait now somedays hopefully she takes good care of them and i will see them soon

this is the first time i see fh fry, i saw some of them... they are so small!! proly same size as my convicts fry..

actually they should be wiggling by the 3rd or 4th day if they are fertilzed

they actually wiggled in less than three days.. 2 days and a half.. this depends on the temp?

guess what its actually nothing compared to the last two summers... this summer there was only one super hot week... and last week we had rain and thunder almost everyday.. crazy huh?? this week still hot but also very humid... and it didnt got hot till late june.

here they are! just one day free swiming i know they look like any other baby fish but im so happy after so many failings i finally have fry!! and it seems like i have more then what i though probably its a 100 of them!
i moved them on their own and they are swiming and seem to be eating i will update in a few weeks

i have a very cheap canon camera... i like to play with the manaul settings and use the macro mode to take pics of the fish.. took like 20 shoots to get a few good ones lol im crazy

I'm learning how to use my canon too and messing around with macro mode. I take like 80-90 pictures just to get a couple of good ones

bad news.. today i woke up and they was all gonne... i dont understand wtf happen.. i think i should have left em with mom till they got bigger.. but oh well... at least i know now i have a fertile couple and hopefully they will give another spawn in some weeks... next time im gonna let her raise em till they reach bigger size.
they was in a 40 gallon that i divided, on the other side its two baby EBJD's , i know they didnt jump and ate em, and i know they couldnt have move througth the divider.. the temp was fine.. i only saw one dead fry floadting on the water.. and two alive.. i didnt see anymore dead bodies or nothing.. i took the divider out.

Yeh maybe your filter sucked them up. Fry do die a lot actually when I had a few batches before there were always frys floating

that's not possible i had left the "sucking" part of the filter on the other side of the tank.. so they couldnt have been sucked. the divider do have little bitty holes but they couldnt go through it... unless my ebjds learned to suck em through it like spagetti.. very stupid from me .. i should have left em with mom or put em in a 10g empty thats laying around...

Yeah, try that 10gl next time with the same water from your bigger tank. Try feeding the parents chopped up pieces of raw market shrimp just to see if their spawn increases in size.
