Nice pair, and good luck on the breeding, I think the size of female to the male is really good. Sometimes the large females are to aggressive.

Looking good Daniel! I also agree that there should be no current where they will spawn. Best of luck! thumbsup.gif

How long does breeding usually take? I've read in a FHUSA thread that after the tube of the female drops, she starts laying eggs within 4-6 days. Is it really that long?

Still no action. I'm bored. LOL. I'm getting impatient. Must be the 18 year-old in me. tongue.gif

I have an important question:

If it turns out that my new FH is actually male, or if it is a female but is not yet ready to lay eggs, do you think it's a good idea to still keep it in the same tank with my male? The tank is so peaceful, without a hint of aggression of territorial protection, I might have kept only water in it! LOL.

Thanks for the replies, guys. :=P

UPDATE: Day 1 over. Still no signs of activity. Hmmm...

It takes some time. It all depends when the female feels ready to lay eggs. Once her tube drops it might take 1-3 days for her to start laying, once she begins to lay it should take 1-2 hours for her to finish. Every situation is different though and times may vary. I'm not sure if I would leave them in there together. What size tank is that?

Thanks for the reply, Sir. I hope her tube drops soon, and she lays lots of eggs. I'm really excited.

Oh, I see. It's actually a rather small tank. Tank space is a problem in our house. But I've seen a breeder do good in a small tank. But I'm planning to buy a big one soon. biggrin.gif

Have heard of other breeders using 1 inch of gravel to stimulate her breeding response. I have just had a pair that on previous meetings have hated one another, go from a divided tank to spawned within a week and back to seperated after spawning. this was my first attempt. check the video on my only post here. you think this bit is bad, wait till you are watching eggs for 3 days solid!

Thanks for the tip, bro. The tank currently has no gravel (I like to keep my tank simple and easy to clean biggrin.gif), but I'll try it soon.

Yeah, I know. There are more boring days to come. But I'm sure, in the end, it will be rewarding and worth the wait. biggrin.gif

UPDATE: Day 2 is over. The only activity I've ssen so far is the female pecking on the clay plate, and sometimes, on the male's anal fin.

I left them for almost a whole day as I was in school. Lucky no one ripped anyone. tongue.gif

Oh boy, just moments ago, I witnessed my pair lip-locking. Both have suffered little gashes on the face, nothing serious though. Is this a sign that my female is getting ready to breed as she is becoming aggressive? I separated them for now. sad.gif

It could be a sign of courtship or a territorial dispute. How many gallons is your tank?

It's 30X40X60cm, Sir. I know it's rather small. I plan to buy a bigger one soon. biggrin.gif

Aren't you supposed to divide them with a divider for a while to get them used to seeing each other?
