Trying to breed FH's for the first time. Male is just over a year old. Not sure of females age. Have divider with go through in 90 gallon tank after having one without go through for the first week. She has ventured over a few times, but got chased rather hard and went back to her side. Since then she has been kinda teasing him with acting like she might go back over, but then backs away from the passage. He seems very interested in her and has been showing off like crazy, with the digging and cleaning the breeding plate to boot. She has been in the tank only about a week and a half. Should I take the divider out completely or just leave it up to her to decide if she wants to persue the male? Anything else I could do to make things right?

Try taking it out but keep a very close eye on them for a couple of hours.

Took the divider out last night, but made sure I had made a place for her to retreat to that Bubba couldn't get at her. She has only come out a couple times for only a moment from that retreating spot. She doesn't seem to mind being in it. She started moving the rocks around inside of it like she was trying to make it her little home. Its a peice of pvc pipe butted up against the side of the tank with a drifted wood set in front of it so only she can fit inside. Makes it so I can see how she is doing.

This morning she is still in her little home. I hope she doesn't stay in there all the time. If she does, do I have a incompatible pair? Bubaa doesn't seem to want to hurt her, just be with her.

put the plate on the side of the male so when she is ready to lay eggs she will go on the male side. The male will know when she is about to lay eggs so he won't hurt her. Good luck

She laid eggs last night. Unfortunately not on the breeding plate but in a clay pot that was too small for Bubba to get in at to fertilize. Although he did try his best. So we'll see.

Being this is the first time these two have tried to spawn, I plan to just let them be to see how they act. So far they have been being good parents and not trying to hurt each other either. She did get a bit beat up during the whole deal, but is already healing up nice.

let us know if the breeding was successful..

I think had she not laid the eggs where she did it would have worked. I did see a very few eggs get the black dots, but most turned white. My fault for giving one too many places to lay eggs. That and she seemed to want the protection of a cave like area. So for next time I am going to make a cave like structure over the breeding plate that Bubba can fit in.
