I have an RD ZZ pair which I have been trying to breed. My first attempt was by the middle of February. Although there was very little violence, my male did not fertilize the eggs. I believed this was because he was inexperienced (He is 2 years old, about 10 inches or so). sad.gif

Then, just this week, three weeks after my female laid her first egg, she laid eggs again! Talk about an egg-layer! smile.gif This was, of course, unexpected, as I was planning to breed them after 6 weeks. So I kinda put the male with her rather late, but he didn't do the deed again...

Has someone else encountered this problem? My male is 100% ZZ as far as I know (Yeah, I know, they are hybrids, so there's no such thing as a pure strain, what I meant was that he showed no Kamfa trait). Has anybody encountered breeding problems with ZZs before? Aren't they 100% fertile? If so, what could have been the problem?

Advice on this issue is very much appreciated. Thank you. sad.gif

I have had trouble breeding ZZ.

Make sure the temperature is nice and warm, feed them really well, live healthy feed or market shrimp, ensure they have plenty of space (60gl or bigger), keep them separated for a while so they can adjust to each other, once you remove the divider try to leave them alone, make sure the water is super clean before you begin all this.

Best of luck Daniel!

Thank you, Sir! I will try to do all your suggestions and hopefully, my pair will produce a lot of fry. Thanks again, Sir! smile.gif

I have a zz and a red terror that i introduced to each other a couple months ago. within a week she laid egg for him and he did nothin. it took her almost two months before layin again. That was FRIDAY!! I have wigglers Now!! at least a hundred!! i would try to put them together sooner. i keep mine together most the time.. he never really hurts her but she picks at him sometimes and when he gets pissed, look out!!!!
i would try a couple more times if they get along and she is still hot for him. gl bro!!

Thank you, bro. I think she's still hot for him. She even lays eggs without being with him and just thinking of him! LOL. biggrin.gif

I'm expecting her to lay eggs next month... I don't know if my male will fertilize it, though. I promised myself not to take pictures unless I see wrigglers. LOL. biggrin.gif
