Hello, I'm new here. I am buying this flowerhorn soon and I have no idea what type it is or is it really a male or a female. Or how old it is, since the seller said that he got it for about a year. The fish seem to have a small kok for this age? Right? How big can they grow and how fast? Because the seller said that this flowerhorn is 7 inch in size. Does the fish looked qaulity made? Fine? How hardy are they? I own bettas and bettas are pretty hardy so is Flowerhorn as hardy as bettas? This is the only Flowerhorn that I'm planning to get so is it good to keep him with tank mates? If yes then, what kind of fish? I am planning to use Seachem prime as a basic water conditoner for this Flowerhorn. Will Seachem prime be good enough or is there a better water conditoner that you fellows can advice me with? I am also planning to feed him slice up grey prawn meat. So, PLEASE advice me to the good deeds and thank you.

I think she is a red dragon. They are VERY hardy, more hardy then bettas. I don't think you should keep him with tank mates, you can if you have a big enough tank. What size tank do you have? They are very aggressive so you have to choose tank mates carefully, usually they end up taking over the whole tank. For food variety is the key, a good staple flower horn pellets is recommended, along with krill, raw shrimp, shrimp pellets, blood worms, ect. What Im getting at is the more variety of foods you have the better the colour and the healthier he will be. The water conditioner is fine. The kok could pop out a bit more but I don't think she will have a huge one.

I have an empty 20 gallon and an empty 15 gallon for it. So this flowerhorn is a female? How can you tell the difference between a male and a female? And it is a red dragon? So happy to know smile.gif! But what makes it a red dragon?

Those tanks are too small for a FH, they need at least a 50 gallon, they get to 14". Yes, it's a red dragon, I have one. A red dragon is just the name, same characteristics, same species, just different names for different types. Im not sure if it is a female or not, someone will be able to answer that for you. But my guess is a female but I could be wrong.

I have a 60 gallon, I guess I'll do some changing around. Do you know what they mean by qaulity flowerhorn and cheap flowerhorn? Is it because of the color pattern or is it qaulity because of size? I want a male, so I need someone to answer that question to me. Male or female?
Courtney
Well people grade FH's. Low, medium and high grade. It's the quality of the FH, the pattern, the KOK (hump), the colour, the price. If I were to "guess" it's a female.

Its a hard choice for me because I'm afraid that it might be a female after I buy it. But if it really is a male then that will be good for me. I ask the seller and he said that he beleive it's a male. So, now I'm on the 50/50 line thinking if I should go on ahead buy it or not buy..I want to get my first flowerhorn ever as a male.

I could be wrong though, Im not an expert. Other people here are better at sexing them.
