1.) I have a male flowerhorn that is around 6-7". At what size can i use him to breed?
2.) What size female should i buy to breed?
3.) Can any strain of male flowerhorn breed with any strain of female flowerhorn?
4.) So this is what i've come up with during my research. I first get two adult flowerhorns, one male one female. Put them in a rather large tank and seperate them with a clear divider. I raise the temperature slightly to 86 degrees, and keep the water clean. Feed them both a high protein diet and bulk them up for a month while letting them get used to the sight of eachother through the divider. Once they stop fighting through the divider, I lay a flat piece of slate or acrylic on the ground and take out the divider. I watch if they court. Chances are they will court cuz flowerhorn love to screw eachother, and i let them do their thing.
What do i do next? Do i let the two guard the fertilized eggs? How long to hatch? Do i let them guard the fry? how many fry would i approx get that will survive?
And lets say i get my male stud a nice similarly sized flowerhorn that is healthy. What are the chances that if i go through everything i mentioned in 4.), that they will breed? A rough % prediction would be nice thx
