I just picked up 2.5 inch bonsai flowerhorn breeding pair. the female has her tube dropped all the way and they've paired up. I've put them in a 10 gallon tank with a bare bottom besides a few rocks here and there. a hang-on filter and a heater (with a thermometer to keep track of the temp. keepin it high at around 87 degrees).
I'll be putting in a flat, rough surface in the tank soon to see if anything happens. I won't be surprised to see her tube go back in since it was a bumpy ride home in a bag.
Any pointers or tips will help.
Are bonsai flowerhorns mature at this size? I was told by the LFS owner that they are. How fertile are bonsais? Have i been misinformed and are these fish really kirin parrot cichlid? They have regular mouths. flowerhorn patterns. the male has no kok.

They look exactly like these guys:

why? is it hard? my have already paired up and the female is known to lay eggs. are the males often infertile?

I think the males are sterile due to body structure the same way male parrots are sterile. I think it has something to do with how their organs grow since the shape tend to be a lot shorter.
