hey guys, i just found this site and i just bought my 1.5in FH yesterday. And i was wondering what kind of food should i feed it. Right now i'm feeding it TetraColor tropical flakes, but that only till now until i get money to get it Hikari Cichild Gold mini. right now it's in a 10 gallon with my new 2in pleco. and what other fish should i put in with it so it won't be lonely.

thank for the help....
iamantho
cool. i'd leave it alone with the pleco thumbsup.gif

iamantho is right. In a 10g tank...don't get anymore fish until you get a much larger tank in the future.

hey there, my pleco died.. cry.gif , i think it's because i didn't filter the water out, stupid mistake i did. i knew i should have waited, i think i rushed it. but yea i sorta filter it out, n i got two cories and a spiked catfish, small ones, bout the same size.

but my FH is starting to eat but the real problem is that it's scared of me. when ever i open my hood to drop in food it hides in the corner. i don't know what to do? should i wait a while and let him get comfy. my red devil and oscar wasn't like this when i got them this size. whats wrong and what can i do?

thankz
day
yup my pleco's use to die for some reason bro didnt know why, but a 10gl isnt big enough for a whole lot of fish fh needs about 55gl and up thumbsup.gif

first of all welcome to fhusa! coolx.gif from my experience small fh tend to do that - hide and shy -but just wait ...they grow very fast and soon that fish will be soooo happy to see you and at the top waiting for feeding time biggrin.gif (i have one that bangs on the lid if Im not right on time w/ the food and attention tongue.gif )and yeah , agree w/ Day youll need a much bigger tank real soon - + they seem to grow much faster/ better in bigger tanks thumbsup.gif

sorry to hear about the pleco..hope it was jus a common pleco not the more $$$ type.

I got a new 1.5in poto and I"m feeding it wit some Ocean Nutrition Cichlid Omni Formula. I've had great success wit this for my rams and for frys (both american african cichlids). Here's a link to it:

Dont worry too much about him shying awayits natural. It will recognize u as their food source and will be quick to come to u soon. It took my new fry a few days to realize this. He doesnt hide from me now. I think after another week or so..he'll come up to greet for food as my larger FH does.

yea, both of my FH recognize me now, and the tear up the flakes i feed them. but the problwm i am having now it whats wrong with my first one. his color isn't as bright as my second one, is it becasus he is younger or sick. his whole body is black but you can see the red belly, and around his head you can start to see come lighter color comin in. so do i need to wait and he'll get his color or is my FH sick. and he is always gettin picked on by my second FH, he is kinda bigger so i'm guessin he's older

I think the reason why the other one is darker is becuase he is stressed by being picked on by the other more dominant fh.

Sooner or later the dominant one will kill the weaker one.

They need to separated asap or get another tank.

hey, i just put a divider in and was wondering if the colors on the weaker FH will change or will it stay black, and when will the spots start to turn up?
