In my desire to learn more about flower horns, I recently came across these strains: Kamfa and Jin Hua/Zen Zhou. Can anybody tell me more about these, i.e., characteristics and descriptions. Also, can they be cross bred with my pearl type red dragon and blue dragon?

The Kamfa / Jin Hua takes a longer time to mature. Over in the Far East, we usually breed them when they are around 1 - 2 years old. Again, it greatly depends on how fast the fish matures.

BTW, the Red Dragon / POTO / BD are all classified under ZZ. Hope this helps.

Here's another way!
Jin Hua's have much smaller lips than the Zhen Zhu type. You will notice that ZZ's always have thicker lips. Compare and you'll see.
Sometimes it's hard to explain, but when you've seen enough fh's, it's easy to tell. ..That is unless the fh is really mixed. "o"/

Jason,
I bought a Fh 2 months ago, and the store owner told me it was fh x parrot. People here tell me this is a kamfa strain? If so i was wondering since this strain takes longer to mature, does that also inclusde longer time for it to change colors? Because my FH is is at like 3 1/2 inches, and still the same color as he was at 1 1/2. Although i have noticed that he has been acquiring gold dust looking things on his head and on his body.
Here's a picture

The fun of keeping Kamfa is that the development of the fish will takes its course over time. Once it matures, you will be seeing a lot of development of its coloration, and its hump as well. Be very aware that they are much more sensitive as compared to the Pearl series / ZZ. So, when you do your periodic water change, do about 10% of the volume of your tank about once every fortnight. Just make sure that you have a good filtration system. Attach is the Kamfa that I have, which is about 6 inches. The first picture was taken 2 months ago.

I think there's a minor correction. The fish named Marine supposed to be Storm. That is the breeder's pride.

Super red synspilum type such as Storm, Red Shock, etc. are not flowerhorn! They are crossbreeds from Thailand of which totally unrelated to flowerhorn from Malaysia. Super red texas is another crossbreed that is not flowerhorn and also the famous Jing Kang that also known as Tri Tong in Thailand. These fish is not flowerhorn but a crossbreed first successfully bred in Thailand few years ago.

For Kamfa / Jin Hua, they are only considered mature when they reaches at least 1.5 years old.

They are actually the same strain - Kamfa (in Cantonese), and Jin hua (in Mandarin). In English, its called Golden Flower.

the dude in E-aquarium.biz said SRS were a byproduct of the breeding process to make blood parrots. All i know is they have mostly Vieja Synspilla (hence the name) in them with KKP and Midas. I dont know. Just thinking out loud.
